While station aboard the LHA-6 I was an undesignated seaman, this is the lowest possible rank. As a seaman my primary duties entail :

  • Ship Restoration and Maintenance

  • Ship Navigation

  • Physical Security (Armed Sentry Posts, Security Reach and Breaching Force)

  • Watch/lookout posts

  • Search-And-Rescue Operations

  • Shipboard Firefighting and Emergency Services

  • Assistant to Department Head (Calendar tracking, email and phone contact filtering, regular communication and coordination with Commanders and Ships Executive Officers)

NIOC Hawaii : Navy Information Operations Center is the naval intelligence segment of NSA/CSS Hawaii. This organization houses naval administrative chain of command and authority.

While stationed at NIOC Hawaii sailors wear two hats at the same time: Navy NIOC and NSA/CSS. NIOC typically handles administrative duties while NSA/CSS handles operational duties. My primary duties entailed:

  • Daily Muster and Accountability for 80+ Sailors and Civilians

  • Junior Sailor’s Evaluations, Inspection and Discipline

  • Morale, Welfare and Recreation POC (Budget Management, Event Organization ranging from 20-2000 Sailors)
